Operations director comparing per-resolution costs for customer service AI vendors in a meeting room

Short answer: Sierra AI does not publish a price list. It sells annual enterprise contracts with outcome-based pricing, meaning you pay when the agent resolves a customer conversation and nothing when it hands off to a person. The per-resolution rate and the definition of a resolution are negotiated in each contract. Its only public price document, an AWS Marketplace listing, shows a 1,000,000 dollar 12-month platform dimension set by private offer.

If you are costing Sierra for a budget review this quarter, the frustrating part is that every number on the first page of Google comes from someone other than Sierra. We checked what Sierra itself publishes on 12 October 2026, separated it from third-party estimates, and lined it up against the four competitors that do publish per-resolution prices. We also flag the cost that never appears on any of these invoices.

Read the Marketplace figures carefully. A private offer replaces the listed price with whatever you negotiate, and buyer guides that track the listing describe both numbers as placeholders. What the listing does confirm is the shape of the deal: a 12-month platform commitment plus outcome units, paid upfront or in installments, with no exit once signed.

How much does Sierra AI cost?

Expect a six-figure annual commitment before usage. Sierra sells to consumer brands with large contact volumes and builds the agent with your team, so the contract bundles the platform, the build and the outcomes you expect to consume. Third-party buyer guides put first-year totals in the low to mid six figures once implementation is included, and they agree on one point: Sierra will not quote without a discovery process.

The useful way to frame it for a budget is per resolution. If your contact center handles 40,000 conversations a month and the agent resolves 60% of them, you are buying about 24,000 outcomes a month, or 288,000 a year. Your negotiated rate times that number, plus any platform fee, is the Sierra line. The rate itself is the number to push on, together with the definition of a resolution.

Sierra outcome-based pricing and what counts as an outcome

Sierra's Marketplace listing defines an outcome as "a specific, valuable result the AI agent achieves for your customers", with examples such as "processing a return, resolving a case, or completing a transaction", and adds that "you pay only when the software delivers these defined results, not for each conversation attempt". Bret Taylor has argued publicly that this is where software pricing is heading, and it is a genuinely buyer-friendly model when the definition is tight.

The definition is where contracts differ. Before you sign, get written answers to these:

  • Is a resolution counted when the customer simply stops replying? Some vendors count silence as resolved after a timeout.
  • What happens if the same customer comes back within 24 or 72 hours about the same issue? A reopened case should not bill twice.
  • Is a partial resolution billed, for example an agent that identifies the order and then escalates the refund?
  • Are outcomes priced differently by type, so a password reset and a 300 dollar return cost the same?
  • What is the overage rate once you exceed the contracted outcome quantity, and does it apply monthly or at true-up?

We cover the general mechanics, and the margin trap they create for vendors, in our guide to outcome-based pricing for AI agents.

Sierra AI pricing compared with Decagon, Intercom Fin, Zendesk and Agentforce

Four of Sierra's main competitors publish a per-resolution or per-action price, which gives you anchors for the negotiation even though Sierra's rate is private.

VendorUnitPublished rateDetail
SierraOutcome (resolution)Not publishedAnnual contract, rate negotiated
DecagonSet in the contractNot publishedAnnual contract, rate negotiated
Intercom FinOutcome0.99 USD per outcomeIntercom Fin pricing
Zendesk AI agentsAutomated resolutionAbout 1.50 to 2 USD after included volumeZendesk AI agent pricing
Salesforce AgentforceAction or conversationAbout 0.10 USD per standard action, or 2 USD per conversation on the older modelAgentforce pricing
HubSpot Customer AgentResolved conversation0.50 USD (50 HubSpot credits)HubSpot Customer Agent pricing

The published rates cluster between 0.50 and 2 dollars per resolution. Sierra's pitch is that its agents resolve harder, higher-value cases, such as changes to bookings, subscriptions and orders, so a higher rate can still be cheaper per dollar of support cost avoided. That is a fair argument, and the way to test it is to price the same 1,000 real transcripts with each vendor.

Is Sierra AI worth the cost?

For a brand with tens of thousands of monthly contacts, mostly transactional, and the integration budget to connect order, billing and CRM systems, often yes. A return resolved without a person picking up the ticket frees minutes of handling time, and at the rates in the table above that is usually a good trade. For a smaller team with a few thousand contacts a month, the published-price vendors let you start on a credit card and measure resolution quality before you commit to an annual contract.

The Sierra cost that never appears on the invoice

Every vendor in the table bills you for the resolution. None of them bills you for what the resolution cost. When a Sierra agent processes a return, cancels an order or issues a goodwill credit, the money comes out of your refund budget, and that number is usually larger than the agent fee by an order of magnitude.

Run the numbers for the example above. If 15% of 24,000 monthly resolutions are refunds averaging 45 dollars, the agent moves 162,000 dollars a month. A 1.50 dollar outcome fee on those 3,600 refunds is 5,400 dollars. The refunds are thirty times the fee, and they are decided by a model reading a policy document. When we read Sierra's own public benchmark code, the dollar limits in the policies were not checked by any tool, which we document on our Sierra AI agent spend controls page.

Wrong refunds also have a second-order cost. A customer refunded twice still files a dispute when the original charge is reversed late, and those disputes land on the payments team. If chargebacks already eat into margin, pair the agent rollout with chargeback prevention software so evidence from the agent conversation reaches the dispute response.

The fix is a hard limit outside the agent. AgentsPay gives each agent a per-transaction cap and a monthly budget, routes refunds above a threshold to a person for approval, and logs every decision. It works the same whether the agent is Sierra, Decagon or one you build yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sierra AI publish its pricing?

No. Sierra has no public pricing page, and sierra.ai/pricing returned a 404 on 12 October 2026. Pricing is negotiated per contract and is outcome-based. The only public price document is Sierra's AWS Marketplace listing, which shows a 12-month platform dimension and a per-unit charge for additional outcomes, both set through a private offer.

What is Sierra outcome-based pricing?

Sierra outcome-based pricing means you pay when the AI agent achieves a defined result, such as resolving a case or processing a return, and not for conversations it fails to resolve. Sierra and the customer agree in the contract what counts as an outcome, the rate per outcome and the committed quantity.

How much does Sierra charge per resolution?

Sierra does not publish a per-resolution rate. Third-party buyer guides estimate roughly 1 to 2.50 dollars per resolution, but Sierra has not confirmed those figures. Published competitor rates give a benchmark: Intercom Fin charges 0.99 dollars per outcome and HubSpot Customer Agent 0.50 dollars per resolved conversation.

Is there a Sierra AI free trial?

Sierra does not offer a self-service trial. Access starts with a sales conversation and a scoped build with Sierra's team, followed by an annual contract. If you need to prove resolution rates first, run a pilot on a defined slice of contact volume and agree the outcome definition before it starts.

Can you buy Sierra on AWS Marketplace?

Yes. Sierra lists its platform on AWS Marketplace as a SaaS contract with a 12-month platform dimension and an additional outcomes dimension, priced through a private offer. Buying through Marketplace can let you draw down an existing AWS commitment, which is worth checking with your AWS account team before you sign.
