How do AI agents pay

How Do AI Agents Pay - The Agentic Payment Flow

An agent does not get your credit card. It gets a wallet, a policy, and a control plane that checks every payment before any money moves. Here is exactly how it works.

In short

AI agents pay through a control plane, not a raw card. You fund a wallet for the agent and set policy. When the agent tries to spend, the control plane evaluates the request against your rules and either auto-approves it, declines it, or escalates it to a human. Approved spends get a scoped virtual card, and every event is written to an immutable audit trail.

1

Create a wallet, fund a budget

Give each agent its own wallet and set a hard budget. The agent can only ever spend what is in it, never your whole account.

2

Write the policy

Set spend limits, merchant and category allowlists, velocity rules, and the threshold above which a human must approve. Policy lives in the platform, not in your agent code.

3

Agent requests, policy decides

When the agent tries to pay, Agentspay evaluates the request against your policy and either auto-approves it, declines it, or escalates it to a human. Approved spends get a scoped virtual card.

4

Everything lands in the audit trail

Every event is written to an immutable record: intent, agent, amount, vendor, policy verdict, and approver. Reconcile, export, and answer any question about agent spend.
