Short answer: Mercury has three business pricing plans. Mercury costs 0 dollars a month, Mercury Plus costs 35 dollars a month or 29.90 dollars a month billed annually, and Mercury Pro costs 350 dollars a month or 299 dollars a month billed annually. Annual billing saves 15 percent. USD ACH, domestic and USD international wires, real-time payments and checks are free on all three plans, so you pay for workflow features, not for moving dollars.
That last point is why so many third-party price lists get Mercury wrong. Some still show only the 35 and 350 dollar monthly figures, others only the annual 29.90 and 299, and a few list plans Mercury has since removed. We read Mercury's own pricing page on 15 October 2026 and checked every number below against it.
Mercury pricing plans at a glance
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercury | 0 dollars | 0 dollars | Banking, cards, bill pay and the API for most startups |
| Mercury Plus | 35 dollars a month | 29.90 dollars a month | Teams that invoice customers and reimburse more people |
| Mercury Pro | 350 dollars a month | 299 dollars a month | Complex operations that want a relationship manager and NetSuite categorization |
Every plan includes business checking and savings with no minimum balance, no overdraft fees and no account opening fee. Mercury is a fintech company, not a bank. Deposits sit with its partner banks, Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., and Mercury advertises up to 5 million dollars of FDIC coverage through their sweep networks.
What does Mercury Plus add over the free plan?
Mercury Plus is for a company that bills customers and wants Mercury to do more of the invoicing work. It adds recurring invoices, invoicing by ACH debit at 1 dollar per debit, unlimited 1099 tax filings, priority support and six months free of Xero. Mercury's pricing FAQ also points paid plans at reimbursing out-of-pocket expenses for more than five active users a month and at its enriched NetSuite automations. If you only send invoices occasionally and have a handful of people on cards, the free plan covers it.
Is Mercury Pro worth 350 dollars a month?
Mercury Pro is worth it when a person on the phone is worth more than 3,588 dollars a year to you, which is the annual price at 299 dollars a month. It adds a relationship manager, invoicing by ACH debit at 0 dollars per debit instead of 1, NetSuite categorizations and everything in Plus. A company collecting a few hundred ACH debits a month can cover a meaningful part of the gap on debit fees alone, but for most teams the deciding factor is the NetSuite work and the dedicated contact, not the fee arithmetic.
Mercury fees that apply on every plan
Mercury's plan grid is short because most of the fees are zero. These are the ones that are not, as listed on the pricing page:
| Item | Mercury | Plus | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACH, same day and next day | 0 dollars | 0 dollars | 0 dollars |
| Domestic wires and USD international wires | 0 dollars | 0 dollars | 0 dollars |
| Real-time payments and mailed checks | 0 dollars | 0 dollars | 0 dollars |
| Non-USD international wires | 1 percent currency exchange fee | 1 percent | 1 percent |
| Non-USD card transactions | 3 percent currency exchange fee | 3 percent | 3 percent |
| Invoice paid by ACH debit | Not included | 1 dollar per debit | 0 dollars per debit |
| Federal and state 1099 filing | 5 dollars per filing | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Mercury Books | 35 dollars a month, waived until 31 December 2026 | ||
A few things are priced outside the grid. Treasury unlocks once you hold 250,000 dollars at Mercury. Corporate credit cards pay 1.5 percent cashback. Customers who pay your invoices by credit card are charged the card processor's fee. Mercury Personal, normally 240 dollars a year, is included free with any business plan.
Is the Mercury API free?
Mercury does not charge a separate fee for its API, and API access is part of the platform on every plan, including the free one. You create tokens in Settings under Tokens. Mercury's pricing FAQ does name one API cost: making mass payments on the API can incur fees, so a payout job that pays many recipients should be checked with Mercury before you build it. The invoicing API is also listed with unlimited invoices a month programmatically.
The API is free in a second sense that matters more. A payment sent through it costs the same 0 dollars as one sent by a person, which means your software can move money at no marginal cost. That is great for an AP integration. It is also why the real budget line for an automated setup is not the plan price.
What Mercury pricing means once an AI agent pays
Since August 2026 Mercury has offered agent cards, virtual debit or credit cards a person creates in the app and hands to an AI agent, and its MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude and other tools prepare payments from your account. Neither carries a published extra fee. Combined with free ACH, wires and real-time payments, the cost of an agent paying through Mercury is effectively whatever the agent decides to spend.
Mercury does put guardrails on that. An agent card has one spend limit per daily, weekly, monthly or yearly window that the agent cannot raise, and payments prepared through MCP wait for a human to approve them. But the API's direct send endpoint does not run your approval rules, there is no per-transaction ceiling on any card, and merchant and category locks can only be set by a person in the app. We tested all of it against Mercury's published API definitions on the Mercury MCP server and agent cards comparison.
So budget an agent rollout on Mercury in three lines rather than one:
- The plan. Usually the free plan, or Plus at 29.90 to 35 dollars if you invoice.
- The fees the agent can trigger. Mostly zero, except currency conversion at 1 to 3 percent and possible mass-payment fees on the API.
- The agent's own spending. This is the only line without a natural ceiling, and it should get one: a monthly budget per agent, a per-transaction cap and an approval threshold, set outside the bank so the agent cannot change them. That is what per-agent spend limits and approval thresholds for AI agent payments in AgentsPay are for.
Mercury vs Brex and Ramp pricing for agent spend
Founders comparing Mercury with Brex and Ramp usually compare card programs. For agent spend the more useful question is who controls the limit. Mercury keeps agent cards at the card level with a single interval limit. Brex and Ramp build more policy around cards, and both of their APIs include operations that write card limits, which we documented on the Brex AI agents and Ramp AI agents comparisons. None of the three gives you one budget per agent across every rail it can pay through.
Which Mercury plan should a startup choose?
Start on the free Mercury plan unless you already know you need recurring invoices, ACH debit collection or broader reimbursements, in which case Plus pays for itself quickly at 29.90 dollars a month billed annually. Move to Pro when you run NetSuite and want a relationship manager. If you are issuing SAFEs through Mercury and need a defensible number before the round, a quick business valuation estimate is a useful sanity check next to your cap table.
And if software or an AI agent will move money from the account, add the one line Mercury's pricing does not cover. AgentsPay plans give every agent a budget, a ceiling and a named approver across Mercury cards, Mercury API payments and every other provider it touches.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Mercury cost per month?
Mercury's base plan costs 0 dollars a month. Mercury Plus costs 35 dollars a month, or 29.90 dollars a month billed annually, and Mercury Pro costs 350 dollars a month, or 299 dollars a month billed annually. There are no minimum balance, overdraft or account opening fees on any plan.
Does Mercury charge for wires?
No, not in US dollars. Domestic wires and USD international wires are 0 dollars on every Mercury plan, as are ACH, real-time payments and mailed checks. Wires sent in a foreign currency carry a 1 percent currency exchange fee, and non-USD card purchases carry 3 percent.
Does Mercury charge for API access?
Mercury lists no separate API fee, and the API works on the free plan. The one API cost Mercury names in its pricing FAQ is that mass payments made through the API can incur fees, so confirm the rate with Mercury before building a high-volume payout job.
Do Mercury agent cards cost extra?
Mercury has not published a separate fee for agent cards, which are virtual debit or credit cards launched in August 2026 for AI agents. Card spending follows the normal card terms, including the 3 percent fee on non-USD transactions and 1.5 percent cashback on corporate credit cards.
