In short

An Openfort alternative is an agent-payment layer that is not limited to on-chain settlement. Openfort is crypto wallet infrastructure: embedded and server-side smart-account wallets, session keys carrying on-chain spend caps, and stablecoin settlement across EVM chains. Agentspay is a rail-neutral control plane that puts one policy, human approval, scoped virtual cards, and an immutable audit trail in front of whatever rails you already use, cards and fiat included. Teams whose agents buy from ordinary merchants, not just smart contracts, generally need the card path Openfort does not offer.

Where Openfort fits

Openfort is a genuinely good choice if your agents transact on-chain. It is open source, its signer can be self-hosted, and its session keys let you encode allowed contracts, spend caps, and time windows into the key itself, so limits are enforced on-chain rather than only in a policy server. If key sovereignty matters to you, that self-hosting path is a real advantage and we will not pretend otherwise.

Where Agentspay fits

Openfort settles in stablecoins across EVM chains. Agentspay is rail-neutral and fiat-card-first, so one policy covers a card purchase, a SaaS renewal, and an on-chain payment, with human approval above a threshold and a single immutable audit trail across all of them. Card issuing is not among Openfort's listed features, so the moment your agent has to check out at an ordinary merchant that takes cards, you need a card layer anyway.

Side by side

Agentspay compared with Openfort

An honest look at how each one approaches agent payments.

Dimension Agentspay Openfort
Settlement rails Rail-neutral and fiat-card-first, with crypto optional, in front of your existing issuer. Crypto only. Stablecoin settlement across EVM chains, with no fiat or card rails.
Spend limits Policy engine evaluates every request before money moves, on every rail the agent touches. Strong policy primitives: per-transaction, daily and monthly caps, contract and method allowlists, enforced on-chain through session keys.
Human approval Threshold-based human-in-the-loop gates that pause a spend mid-flight. Its marketing mentions approval thresholds, but we found no documented human-approval API in the public docs.
Virtual cards Scoped, single-use, time-bound virtual cards issued by API, issuer-agnostic. Card issuing is not among its listed features.
Open source and self-hosting Managed control plane with an API and SDKs. Open-source signer with a self-hosting path. A real advantage if you need key sovereignty.
Audit trail One immutable, exportable, agent-attributed record: intent, agent, policy verdict, approver. Audit logs in the dashboard, plus on-chain history, which is inherently verifiable.
Pricing See our pricing page. Public self-serve tiers: a free tier, then plans at 99, 249 and 599 US dollars per month by operation volume (checked July 2026).
